A large part of my work grows out of an early-born love for nature — for light and air, water and earth, trees, plants, animals, and mountains. Traveling extensively, I created landscapes drawn from vivid memories, sometimes populated with figures, sometimes not. India, Nepal, Morocco, and more recently Brazil have all found their way onto the canvas. Yet there are also visions of places I have never visited. Some landscapes are entirely imaginary, like Birch Trees, while others are inspired by the dreamlike islands of the South Pacific, such as Easter Island. Works like the Discovery of Eden series are examples of this imaginative exploration.
Within the landscape portfolio, a variety of styles can be recognized — impressionism, expressionism, and influences from the Pont-Aven school in Brittany, led by Gauguin.
